Your heading out to an unfamiliar place so it only makes sense to have a map on hand. But at times we depend on others for the directions to where ever our destination may be, instead of looking at the map. At times we depend on others directions, because they seem so sure. Their voices may seem confident as they point in the direction they feel is where you want to go. So you take it for granted, leave the map to the side and go ahead with the directions from the person. But then as you go further and further, you realize - something seems wrong. The signs, they are everywhere, and they aren't adding up. Then you realize you better open that map and take a look for yourself. To your surprise you're going completely in the wrong direction from what the map says. It will only take a few times to depend on others for the direction till we wake up and understand we are better off just sticking with the map and following it the best you can. Before long you get to your destination a lot quicker without a bunch of road blocks. Do you see where I am going with this?
It is the same thing with the bible. You pick up your bible you head to church. But strangely these days your rarely asked to open it. You can read it up on the big screen the churches now have. You hear stories, you are given a great concert show, talk about the next events the church can get involved. Then somewhere during all the church events and planning there is a 20-45 minute message. But what is the message? You listen and you hear what the Pastor says, you look up at the screen to see the verses he has picked to go according to what he wants to share. But are you asked to open your bible and read it? Do you go home and read it for yourself? Not just the verse but the entire chapter to see what the verse really means? We can't pick a verse here and a verse there and make something out of it, you need the entire picture (chapter) to see what it is telling you. Do you put all your trust in your Pastor to be leading you in the right direction? Do you ever take you trusty map (bible) out to see for yourself if your being lead in the right direction? If you find yourself lost, you need to get back to the basics- open your bible, read it, see what else it may be saying. If you depend on man for the directions, you may find yourself lost, cause you depended solely on the word of someone else, rather than checking it out for yourself.
So remember if we find our self lost, we can only blame ourselves for not checking it out. I figured this out many years ago. I found that most of what I was taught was so man-made , rather than the God's truth.
Open it up and you will find that as you read, you may find you have to turn around and head the other way, cause you been lead astray.
The scriptures warn us that a famine would go out through the world. Not of bread and water, but of the word of God. People will desire to know it, but won't find it. Why? Cause the churches are suppose to be providing it, but today it is more about entertainment and how many members they can get, how much money they can bring in, rather than disciplining the body and leading?
Please open your bibles and read them, cause you may have to do a U-turn.
After reading this from so many years ago, I am so blessed that I did find a great Pastor - Brother Jason Jackson of Christian Tabernacle. I believe his heart is lead by the Lord and I sure miss the church!
Be thankful to the Lord if you have a God lead man, it is rare today!
